If you’ve done long distance as a military couple before you know what we’re talking about when we say you often hit a point that feels like a big ol’ bummer. When one day, you just want to say “I love you so much but I am just so frustrated with not being able to be with you anymore.” all the while knowing that you still have x many days left until you are reunited. That doesn’t mean that makes those bummer days any easier. We know what does though! Mixing up that routine. Give yourselves something fresh to chat about, together.

As fellow milsos who have been through countless times of long-distance in our respective relationships, here are 10 long-distance date night ideas to keep things fresh and fun!

military relationships

Cook a Meal or Bake a Treat

Pick the same thing and cook it at the same time on FaceTime together, or you can each try something new. The beauty is you’re spending intimate time doing something you’d likely be doing together if you were physically close and just resting on that fact alone brings you all the feels you need to push ahead.

If you’re unsure where to start, try our make-your-own sushi idea HERE!

Play a Board Game

Do you know what’s better than beating your significant other at Yahtzee? Doing it from across the globe! Truly, it’s an easy way to stir up some competitive energy and get a good laugh from each other.

Binge a TV Show or Watch a Movie

It’s like a book club, but with your favorite person! Pick something new to watch, grab the popcorn and watch it together. Then you’ll have new things to talk about afterward and something to look forward to while you search for your next show or movie to dive into.

We love THIS list of shows couples who can’t agree on what to watch, will actually enjoying watching together!

Build a Bucket List

You’ll hear this one often for a deployment communication strategy with planning an epic post-deployment vacation, but the same goes here. Celebrate the future you’re sacrificing so much for now by building out your bucket list together for then!

Play Never Have I Ever or 20 Questions

Learn something new about each other and give yourselves plenty of new talking points for all of the text conversations between your next FaceTime. You can find some questions to get you feeling inspired online, like THIS one!

Learn Something New

It can be a language, a sport, or crocheting. Really the activity doesn’t matter as much as you both trying something new and reporting back to each other on how it’s going! Imagine getting your yoga certification during this weird season of life and then being able to FaceTime your boo with some new (insanely cool) poses you’ve mastered!

We personally love Babbel – keep an eye out for epic deals from them for holidays throughout the year.

Open Gifts or Mail

Simple and sweet! Set a cost limit and send each other a package, open them together, and enjoy.

Read a Book or Listen to a Podcast

Ok, a book club with your bestie. Can it get any better? The only competition is listening to a Podcast you both love and learning something new together that way.

Make Cocktails

Start mastering those drinks you’ll be mixing up when you’re hosting in your joint home one day together. You can grab a cocktail book, pick up all of the ingredients and learn about each other’s drink preferences along the way!

Tune in to Concert

There are so many live shows available online now, share the experience of your favorite artist(s) together over some takeout from the comfort of your own spaces.
