Finding Freedom in Your Career: How Purdue Global Empowers Military Spouses to Make Their Comeback

This blog post is sponsored by Purdue Global. All opinions are 100% our own.

I think it’s safe to say that very few of us had dreams of marrying someone in the military. So, when we set out on planning our lives in our late adolescence, many of us envisioned a clear, ideal career path, one that didn’t involve making our professions easily transferable or accounting for extra degrees just to stay competitive in a market where we had no connections.

Sound familiar?

We know we’re not alone. This story is far from unique, many milsos have walked this same road. And that overwhelming feeling of being stuck? We remember it well. What we would have given back then to know that options exist, options designed with military families in mind!

How Do I Get Un-Stuck?

Where experience or opportunity falls short, continued education is a viable option to bring you to the next step in your career, one that will fit into military life the way you want (or need) it to. Maybe you already hold a bachelor’s degree but struggle to land that ideal interview without a master’s or relevant experience. Or maybe you’ve discovered a passion for an entirely new field and need to start from the beginning.

Hope is not lost. What once seemed like a murky, questionable path (online education) has grown into a legitimate and respected option. Especially when balanced with the busy (and often unpredictable) lives military families lead. Today, it stands as a trusted path to advance your career or create an opportunity to improve life for you and your family.

Who Can I Trust?

Purdue Global, backed by none other than Purdue University, is the solution that we wish we had known about when we were at this pivotal moment in our careers. We breathed a huge sigh of relief for this community to know that Purdue Global not only exists but is clearly established in its own right as one of the most respected and trusted names in public higher education. Purdue Global was built with working adults in mind. That’s why they offer relevant courses led by faculty with real-world experience, there to support students every step of the way. Taking it a step further, they have intentionally curated solutions for military service members, veterans, and their families.

The true sign of a “military-friendly” institution is when they have specific information for military spouses. The chills we get when we feel so seen and valued. Purdue Global offers just that, which is why we are so proud to bring this resource to your attention. Purdue Global has been awarded as a 2025-2026 Gold-level Military Friendly School, 2025-2026 Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges, and the best yet, 2025-26 Military Friendly Spouse School. They established an Office of Military Student Relations in 2023 to ensure a high-quality, compliant experience for military students across key components of their educational journey.  Dedicated and experienced military advisors assist military spouses with options for flexible leave of absence requests, and student support as well as a staggering 3-week trial period for eligible students to make sure Purdue Global’s undergraduate program is the right fit for you. In addition to its own military tuition assistance, they also accept MyCAA, and you may be eligible to use qualifying GI Bill benefits to save on your education. The Homefront Education Grant is also available to eligible spouses of currently enrolled active-duty, National Guard, reserve, or veteran Purdue Global students. Eligible spouses receive a discounted tuition rate of $230 per quarter credit hour (undergraduate programs only).

Starting Your Comeback

We appreciate understanding what to expect as best as we can before heading into uncharted territory. This is a regular occurrence for milsos, so we are happy to be able to spell out what to expect in this situation for you!

  1. Create your Account & Profile
  2. Add Your Prior Education
  3. Choose Your Program
  4. Select Your Funding Options

With the tragic understanding that unemployment amongst military spouses is significantly higher than the national average, Purdue Global’s Center for Career Advancement (CCA) is a department dedicated to assisting graduates in reaching their career goals, which includes military spouses. The CCA’s focus on personalization lends itself to this population, as they have created employer partnerships with military-friendly employers and created resources designed to assist this population, including resume tips, how to best understand whether an employer is military-friendly, and networking tips.

On top of all that, the CCA proactively reaches out to pending graduates four months before graduation and continues to work with graduates upon program completion. They not only have Career Specialists working one-on-one with students, but two Senior Career Specialists (one who happens to be an Air Force Veteran and both identifying as Military Spouses) dedicated to assisting with creating resources, lending their hand to multiple departments.
