I call Fort Irwin the Desert Oasis. The base is located about 40 miles from the nearest town of Barstow. While the isolation is not my favorite thing, the base is fantastic for young families with lots of playgrounds and regular fun family friendly activities. There is a Starbucks, plenty of food trucks and household businesses to purchase treats from as well as a couple quick bite options at the PX. As you read my responses you will notice that if there is an “On Post” option that is acceptable I am definitely preferring that because I do not love how much time it takes to get somewhere and back.

Things to know about Fort Irwin

The doggies and I have become regular fixtures around the streets of Fort Irwin on our daily walks/jogs. I joined the Military Spouses Club and I join as many of our group spouse’s coffees as my schedule permits. I increased my love of Audible for the long drives for 4 day trips around California.
