I’ll be honest, my husband almost had to drag me to South Korea for our assignment at Kunsan Air Base. Everything I heard about the base was negative, (plus, it is an unaccompanied assignment, therefore I wouldn’t exactly be supported while I was there).

I went under the condition that I would try it out for a month or so and would leave if I hated it.

Fast-forward through my experience at Kunsan Air Base – I can’t even begin to describe how extremely happy I am that I went. I think my husband actually had to drag me on the plane to leave (and yes, there were certainly tears).

My advice to any spouse who is planning to accompany their hubby at Kunsan Air Base is to get out and explore! Head into downtown Gunsan, coffee shop hop, try to immerse yourself in the local culture, try new foods, check out local attractions, take day or weekend trips. It’s 100% what you make of the experience.

Things to know about Kunsan Air Force Base

Before moving to Korea, there was nothing about Korean food that interested me enough to try it. Now, I absolutely love Korean food and make it on a regular basis! I’ve also gone from using Neutrogena to a full-blown 10-step Korean skincare routine – there’s no going back. In addition, I’ve made so many incredible memories while living in and traveling around Gunsan and South Korea. It has honestly been my favorite assignment (that’s saying a lot after having come from Aviano AB in Italy!)
