MY STORY

Raise your hand if your career path was turned upside down after meeting your service member. If your hand is up right now, you are not alone. Upon entering the Air Force world, I very quickly realized that my career was not cohesive to my husband’s schedule. I knew I needed to find a career that I loved and would also fit into my new life. I was not crazy about paying for a new more education after investing so much money and time into my prior career path. Thankfully, I found the MyCAA scholarship. I was able to use this program to almost fully pay for my nursing degree and am so thankful to have a more portable career.

WHAT IS IT?

MyCAA is a scholarship program that offers up $4,000 to put towards licensing, certifications, or associate degrees. The term scholarship in regards to MyCAA can be confusing. If you meet the qualifications below and want to pursue an approved license, certificate, or degree at an approved school then you can receive this money. There is no competing with others to obtain this “scholarship”.

WHO QUALIFIES?

Spouses of active-duty service members and reserve members in pay grades E-1 through E-5, W-1 through W-2, and O-1 through O-2 qualify for this opportunity. Have a plan, but can’t begin until your spouse surpasses these ranks? No problem.  Military spouses will remain eligible for the financial assistance offered through the MyCAA scholarship if their sponsor is promoted above the eligible ranks so long as they already have an approved education and training plan in place. So reach out to Military One Source while your spouse is still in this rank. Set your plan and get it approved.

HOW TO GET STARTED

To assist you in finding a career path that is covered by MyCAA and verify that you do qualify, you can contact Military One Source through their website. You can find it linked here. The employees of this agency are phenomenal and will provide you with so many resources to help you reach your goals of a portable career. Their website also has tools to find approved schools, map out your career path, and even career coaches to help you get hired when you do complete your path.

IN CONCLUSION

Overall my experience with MyCAA was wonderful and stress free. The counselors were genuinely interested in helping me succeed. They went above and beyond to find any resources that may be helpful to me and sent them directly to my email. I highly recommend this program to anyone who qualifies and is looking to further their education.
