3 years ago I was jobless as we moved from Tacoma, Washington to San Antonio, Texas for our next assignment. We were going to be in San Antonio for only a few short months before settling in at Laughlin Air Force Base for the next 3-4 years.

I had been applying for any job I could in the Del Rio area and failing miserably at finding anyone local that would hire me knowing I was a military spouse moving to the area. Out of pure desperation, I Googled “work from home without selling something”…and stumbled across a person that would change my life, Esther. I watched her introduction video, made my husband watch her video, and immediately started looking into her course — 90-day VA. I took the plunge, started working as a Virtual Assistant, and now almost 3 full years later I’m making double what I started at WITHOUT SELLING A DAMN THING.

Hear this, I started out in this field doing very basic administrative tasks: calendar management, email replies, organizing files and transitioned to hiring team members, creating systems to launch courses for clients, billing/invoicing, contract updates, and so much more. I went from making $15/hour to making $35/hour, working 25 hours a week.

How? I busted my butt. I took Esther’s program, learned and soaked up every bit of knowledge I could, and applied it to my new Virtual Assistant career. As time went on working for client’s I continued saying “yes” to opportunities that sounded exciting to me and found myself in a position to take on a management role as a “Digital Business Manager”.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS A DIGITAL BUSINESS MANAGER AND HOW DID YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO?

This is just a fancy way of saying you manage the operational side of a business. If you’re an organized person or a person that loves organizing things for others, this is your jam. How did I know I could successfully do this job? More training of course! And, who else would I trust besides Esther and the person that functioned in this exact role for HER business…enter the one and only, Deya.

HOW DO I GET STARTED AS A DIGITAL BUSINESS MANAGER?

Deya has a great training program, but I first recommend watching her free webinar on what a DBM is and how to get started.

IS THIS THE REAL DEAL?

It is! But only if you’re willing to put in the work. Don’t waste your money signing up for the program if you’re not willing to put in the work it takes to learn the skills to be successful, otherwise you won’t get the same payout and you’ll be sorely disappointed.

HOW MANY HOURS/WEEK WOULD I NEED TO WORK?

That’s up to you and the client that hires you. How many hours a week do you WANT to work is a good place to start? Followed closely by how many hours a week CAN you work? If you’re a stay-at-home-mom and your kids only nap 2 hours/day, and that’s when you plan to work…only commit to that 10 hours/week. If you have a wide-open schedule, but only want to commit to 25 hours/week, go for it. It’s your call and then you work to find clients that have needs that align with your availability and skills.

WHAT WILL I GET PAID?

With training and no proven experience, I would start at $25-30 an hour and set up regular intervals to negotiate a raise once you’ve proven your skillset. If you have the training and some experience, you can easily justify $35/hour to start.

WHAT IS THE TRAINING LIKE AND HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

It’s literally every single thing you need to successfully work as a DBM, from setting up your business to running someone else’s. Deya’s training specifically is an 8-12 week Bootcamp that teaches you to plan & manage digital projects, run remote teams, optimize business systems, and scale digital businesses alongside entrepreneurs and business owners.

The length of the training depends on your schedule! The video course content ranges from 5 – 10 hours a week, not including assignments or capstone projects. The “Normal Track” normally takes students 12 weeks while the “Fast Track” takes students 8 weeks. It is 100% dependent on you and how much time you have.

IS IT WORTH THE INVESTMENT?

She offers 3 tiers of training, ranging from $497-$797 depending on how much support you want or need. I personally opted for Tier 2 at $597 and it had already paid for itself in 17 hours of work as a DMB, so just about 3.5, 5-hour days of work for me. And, because of her excellent training and I’ve already received a $5/hour raise in my first 90-days in the new role!

As always, I’m here to remind you that working from home doesn’t have to be this vague, mysterious career + encourage you as a military spouse to take advantage of all that the flexibility of this line of work has to offer. If you are willing to invest in yourself (this does not mean invest in products to sell, it means investing in YOU learning skills to apply to the working world), soak up the knowledge like a sponge and work hard to apply that knowledge, then you can most definitely make a work from home career work for you.
